The world now changes their view on renewable energy. Nowadays, we can see a number of people who promote renewable energy resources. Solar power is the most common renewable energy sources. In Kerala, the situation is almost the same. The new development in renewable energy sources promotion is from the Kozhikode district. The Kozhikode district panchayat in association with the KSEB will install solar power units in the 44 government high schools and the higher secondary schools in the district.
The technical support and the subsidy for schools will be provided by the ANERT( Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology ). This scheme is claimed to be the first of its kind in the Kerala. This scheme requires Rs. 3.5 crore.
By installing Solar Units in School, the school remains connected to the common electricity supply and it is called a “grid-tied” or “grid interactive” system. Sometimes, the photovoltaic (PV) Solar System may generate more power than the school required, then they can sell the excess power back to the KSEB and that will get additional income. The Solar Power Units absorb clean, pure energy from the sun. Installing solar panels in the schools help in reduces our collective dependence on fossil fuel. A solar power unit installation also provides a new opportunity for students to attain more knowledge about renewable energy resources.Using the solar power units will help the schools to save around 2 crore rupees annually.
The plan of the district panchayath is to include 25 schools in this scheme for the first time. But KSEB expressed their willingness to add more schools to this scheme so that this project can be given under the energy management programs. ANERT is one of the partners of this scheme and they will provide technical support and check for the possibilities of providing subsidies for the schools.
