Cluster Based Industries Sought For Solar Products
This article is about cluster based industries sought for solar products. The Kerala State Small Industries Association (KSSIA) requested the Kerala government to open cluster-based industrial estates for encouraging electronic and solar system manufacturing units. With this initiative, there will be more benefits for micro, small and medium companies in Kerala. This proposal was put forward by KSSIA in a session organized by the Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion.
This was conducted to extort the opinions of entrepreneurs, industrialists, and trade body representatives about the State government’s industrial and commercial policy. The former KSSIA state president K P Ramachandran Nair suggested that the Kerala government should set up a mother unit and need to extend the subsidies to these industrial clusters. The manufacturing units for solar systems and other power generation systems are good for the state. And this will help the common people to get low-cost power.
He also noted that the public sector units like Keltron must purchase products from small and medium industries and sell them under its own brand. Keltron in the earlier times imported products when there are manufacturing units in the state. The 20% procurement by PSUs is reserved for MSMEs. If the PSUs publish the purchase requirements once in every 3 or 6 months it will be a benefit for the industry.
The KSSIA also suggested that the government need to reduce the interest rates on loans provided by Kerala Financial Corporation. Also, the eligibility for assistance under the entrepreneur support scheme should enhance to 50 lakhs. It is because the small and medium industries are investing crores to set up plants and machinery.
They also requested the government to provide subsidy or grant up to 30% development charges for small units in the industrial estates. They suggested that if any industry got more than 10 acres of land it can be treated as a private industrial estate. Due to the high density of population in Kerala, there is limited space for industries. The industrial policy must take necessary actions to provide logistical and infrastructural facilities in industrial estates. They recommended to include a relaxation in the policy for costly fire and safety equipment. Also to give full ownership of land on allottees who fulfill the complete payment need to be added to the policy.
